Week 27 - Thundercats/Cheetara By Rich Bernatovech

Here's my entry for this week's theme of Thundercats on Illustrious Bits. I picked this week's theme in hope to do a cool Thundercats print. Unfortunately, we have the Wizard World Philly Comicon this coming weekend and I have a ton of stuff to do before the show. So, I decided for now, I was just going to do a sketch of Cheetara. I liked drawing her and had fun with the colors. Later this year I'll get to doing that print for the Thundercats.

Week 26 - Rachel Summers By Gene Kelly

Another great addition from new comer Gene Kelly... Rachel Summers.

Check out more here.

"This is part of :iconillustriousbits:'s Rachel Summers theme this week. I also think of it as a bit of a tribute to Chris Claremont's work as a pioneer of (legitimately) strong female characters in comics. Rachel was part of the British super team Excalibur back in the day, one of my favorite Claremont books... at least until it devolved into a slew of guest artists and crosstime incomprehensibility, lol. But still. Claremont, baby.

Week 26 - Rachel Grey by Randy Ostridge

oooh, another Great addition from Randy.

Check out more here.

"This image is for a weekly theme over at the Illustrious Bits sketch group.

Rachel Grey Summers is one of the X-Men characters that I never really took a warming too. I like the whole Summers-Grey storyline with Cable and stuff, but I never found Rachael was used all that well. Maybe that has changed in recent storylines, since I am a little out of the loop. In any event, you cannot deny she is a fierce woman, and I wanted to depict that in this image.

Lineart in Flash, coloured in Photoshop."

"here is my submission to :iconillustriousbits: week 26 - rachel grey.

rachel is a very cool character with a very cool past. here she is in her current costume and her original hound costume. notice that i left the tattoos off of her face in the background. this was done because at that time, she was ashamed of them and psychically masked them from people."

Week 26 - Rachel Grey By Rich Bernatovech

This week's character for Illustrious Bits is the X-Men's time-traveling alternative future daughter of Cyclops and Jean Grey, Rachel Summers Grey. I always found this character very interesting. She was one of the best written character in the hands of Chris Claremont and even took over the mantle of Phoenix for a time. But after Claremont left, it seemed like many writers didn't know what to do with her. So, lol, of course they added to her time-traveling confusion and made her go into the way future and be a protector of her sort-of-brother, Cable. I'm not even going to try to explain it. But it's total comic book soap opera wackiness at it's best. She's been back in the present for a while now and I haven't followed her story too much, but I hear that their isn't much of a story for her at the moment. I decided to do this quick sketch of her in one of my favorite looks that she had. Lol, even though she had a semi-mullet! Gotta love the spiked costume!

Week 25 - Creature from the Black Lagoon By Gene Kelly

Gene Kelly is a new addition to Illustrious Bits (his first entry was during Transformers week!) and he makes a big splash (pun intended, lol) with his entry of the Creature from the Black Lagoon for this week's Movie Monster choice.
Gene also did this in only 20-30 minutes of sketch time . Awesome, huh? This sketch works as another subject for Gene in that over at Rocketbot.com, there is a Sketch-A-Day: Green theme. Check out more of Gene's work over there and also on his Deviant Art page here.

Week 25 - the Crone by Andrew Charipar

OK, this is me once again going in a different direction.

This weeks subject at Illustrious Bits Sketch Blog was Movie Monsters.

I personally think Monsters are suppose to scare you.  I started thinking about Movie Monsters when I was a kid and I was fascinated with the classics.  Dracula, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, Frankenstein (I loved that one) and none of them really scared me.  Even the modern Movie Monsters (Freddy, Jason and so forth) never really scared me either... they just made me laugh.  But the one, the ONE Monster that actually Scarred me... was the Crone from the Disney animated movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

We owned the movie on VHS and whenever her scenes came on the screen, I hide my head under a pillow or left the room... she literally scared the crap out of me.  I even had a Snow White art book and there was a full page, full color picture of her and I memorized the page number and whenever I was looking through the book, I would skip that page, avoiding it EVERYtime.

This was actually a very difficult drawing for me... I had to do my Google searching... in fear.

Ughhh.

Week 25 - The Fly by Ayla Charipar

I really think Ayla has been waiting for this one...

Her Movie Monster pick was... the Fly.  The Jeff Goldblum version.  For some reason, she thinks Jeff Goldblum was "hot"... at least back then.  Ugh... chicks... never can figure them out and this one is mine.

check out her new Deviant art site here.

"Illustrious Bits- Week 25 Movie Monster, The Fly! Actually one of my favorite movies, so the many attempts towards success when't without enjoyment. :)"

Week 24 - Lady Deathstrike by Andrew Charipar

Once again, I went in a little different direction.

When I first thought of the character, a Geisha Girl was the first thing that hit me... The claws and the blood just topped it off.

enjoy

Week 24 - Lady Deathstrike By Rich Bernatovech

I'm still trucking along with my sketches for Illustrious Bits. This week's subject was Lady Deathstrike. I did this sketch pretty quick and I'm going to try to make it a goal to add a little more perspective into my drawings. This one was kind of fun (and fast!).

Week 23 - Transformers - Optimus Prime By Rich Bernatovech

This week's challenge on Illustrious Bits is any character from Transformers. Since I'm not a huge Transformers fan, I found this challenge a little difficult. I wanted to back away from it, but I couldn't stop myself and didn't want to miss a week of Illustrious bits, lol. I picked the Autobots leader, Optimus Prime in his cartoon look to draw.
