Week 30 - Domino By Rich Bernatovech

It's been a while since I posted any sketches for Illustrious Bits. I've been crazy busy, but at the same time, the weeks for Illustrious Bits was moved from taking place over one week to letting everyone have two weeks to get their art in. So, I had a bit more time to get things done. Of course, lol, I didn't get done as much as I wanted. This week's theme is "any character created by Rob Liefield". I think this is an excellent subject and I actually have FIVE sketches pencilled out. But I've only gotten one done so far, Domino. Hopefully I can get the rest done by Sunday! I used to be in an apa (amatuer press association) called TitanTalk many years ago with Rob. I think I was about 12/13 and he was slightly older than me. He was doing some really fun stuff back then and some of his Titans related work even made it into what became Youngblood. Very cool!
Back to Domino though, she's an interesting character and a lot more dynamic than her Petey the dog look.

Week 30 - DieHard by MrPlaid41

One of Rob Liefeld's characters from Image Comics Youngblood... DIEHARD.

check out more here.

"This is for the "Any Character created by Rob Liefeld. " week at :iconillustriousbits:

Probably my most favorite Rob Liefeld character ever. There's something very simple about the design and the primary colors are kicking. Also when I take my glasses off, this is pretty much what I look like minus the blue stripe down the center of my face. I've always been into robot characters and the typical Clint Eastwood "man without a name" archetype; Diehard combines both archetypes into one big magilla. You never see Diehard's face so he could be anyone under that mask. That really opens it up for wish fulfillment and ideation. My two favorite Diehard stories are where he rescues Superpatriot from some evil cybernetic organization and the other one was where he (again) has to rescue Superpatriot from being hacked by The Covenant of the Sword (drawn by :icondevilpig:). I also liked how Diehard in that story could just download his consciousness into another android body and the big reveal is Diehard is restraining Superpatriot and telling him to "Find the man" while aiming his face at a reflective object while D himself has his mask ripped off and it's a hollow shape. Symbolically mindbending that the character arguing to reconnect with lost humanity is so removed from his own that he's not even human anymore. His consciousness which has survived the presumed death of his own body is what makes him human. WILD!

The later story arc of Diehard being replaced by mecha really was identifiable with how we're all replaceable in this day and age. Programs and mechanization have replaced even some white collar jobs. What are we supposed to do for gainful employment when it's more cost effective to just let the program do it?

Unintentionally I ran out of room for his feet so I drew a little cloud obscuring them. It is Rob Liefeld week. :)

I'm really happy with the proportions and focused more on that, "the look" does it "look right" which seems to have worked. So if Rob Liefeld happens across this and needs me for any cover work please email. I'd love to do it."

Week 30 - Deadpool by Randy Ostridge

Another great (and funny) addition from Randy... DEADPOOL!

check out more here.

"This image is for a weekly theme over at the Illustrious Bits sketch group.

The theme for my sketch group was to draw a character created by Rob Liefeld. I went with Deadpool, because I think he is one of my favourite characters from the original X-Force days. It's too bad they train-wrecked him in the Wolverine movie, but that's Hollywood for ya.

Pencil on paper, inked with cool gray, warm gray, and black markers."

Week 30 - Glory bu Stephane De Caneva

Wow...

Glory never looked soooo good.

Glory from Image comics presented by Stephane.  Check out more here.

"Glory is currently one of my favorite comic-books : It's weird, unexpected, the art is incredible, there's even Mont St. Michel !
So my choice for :iconillustriousbits: week 30 was obvious, I had to draw this "Future Glory", designed by :iconmooncalfe: for the new series.
I hope you'll like it... :)"

Nice.

"Digital art: Dwayne Biddix
Drawn for :iconillustriousbits:
Wow it has been a while since I have drawn. And even longer since I did one for them. But I have been working through depression and been working on a run of commissions and inking a story for Viz.
So anyway, here is my Black Canary drawing. I drew this in a stream and it was fun doing it again. And I realized I had not drawn her but 2 times in my whole life. Sort of happy with how this turned out. Had fun with it.
Enjoy

Week 28: TMNT By Rich Bernatovech

Here we are on the last day of week 28 of Illustrious Bits with the subject being the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and I really wasn't sure I'd make it this week. I still have a few commissions to finish up, but I got them done too!
I decided to draw the entire team, because I never drew them before. I had fun doing them and have to admit that Ross Campbell's contributions this week made me HAVE to get this week's subject done. Kudos to Ross for doing so many sketches.

Week 28 - Turtles by Ross Campbell

Ross has done some great work on Image Comic's Glory and IDW's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Leonardo special, as well as his creator-owned series Shadow Eyes and Wet Moon.

Here is a flurry of TMNT's drawings Ross posted on Deviant Art.  Check out more here.

"TMNT Week at :iconillustriousbits: comes to a close!

this one is the most important drawing this week and i saved it for last! this is the first sketch for a TMNT fan-comic i'm cooking up called </i>Secrets of the Ooze, which is a retelling of the second Turtles movie (a.k.a. the one with Vanilla Ice :XD:) with my own spin on the story and characters.

the biggest thing i'm adding is the 5th Turtle, Artemisia (Artie for short), who is the shy worrywart Turtle, whose weapon is the bow-and-arrow (i always felt like each Turtle's weapon was a metaphor for their personality, so Artie's had to be the same!). my Turtles don't have masks, they have natural face markings; they construct their weapons from junk and scraps; and there are some other different things the Turtles discover about themselves and some new things in their origin.

the other characters in the comic are the ones from the original movie, April, Splinter, Keno, Shredder, Tokka, Rahzar, Dr. Perry, and i'm putting Casey and the Utroms into the story. :D

i'm not exactly sure when this is going to happen, i'm hoping next year, i'm hoping i can squeeze a page a week into my schedule and run it as weekly webcomic. it'll have a loose sketchy style like this drawing, it'll probably look just like this, since i won't have time for anything more rendered or refined. but i think that'll be cool, it'll be totally for fun, raw and rough.

special shout-out to *kyuubi-fox-demon for the support and for inspiration on Artemisia's markings. :tmnt1:

Week 28 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by Andrew Charipar

Here I am, taking this in a different direction... again.

Ever since I saw Michael Zulli's interpretation of the Turtles in issue 31 of the original series, I have loved the idea of "realistic" looking turtles.

Here's my take on the boys.

enjoy

Week 27 - Panthro by Randy Ostridge

Another great addition by Randy... Panthro, one of my all time favorite Thundercats!!  WHOO HOO!

Check out more here.

"This image is for a weekly theme over at the Illustrious Bits sketch group.

The sketch group theme for the week was Thundercats, of which I had lots of toys when I was a kid. I haven't really paid much attention to the more recent rebooting, but Thundercats seem to be just as popular now. Here is Panthro, the bad-ass fighting sticks and pilot of the Thundertank. My daughter had her watercolors out, so I decided to use those to change things up.

Watercolors on paper. Some black pencil crayon to finish things off."

Week 27 - Lion-O by Javier Cruz Winnik

Welcome new edition Javier Cruz Winnik.

Check out more here.

"Shout out to :iconillustriousbits: for inspiring me to finally do a real Thundercats piece. I did one a while back but I let not knowing how to draw something stop me from trying to draw it right. I am pretty happy with this, his leg turned out a bit small, but outside of that I am done with this..... I MAY make it a double page spread, adding the other cats and Snarf.... one day.....=]

Oh, and y the way, Saturday Morning Cartoon's are back, I love waking up on Saturday mornings for the first time in two generations..... who'da thunk it?! Shout out to Kick Buttowski, Ben 10, Green Lantern, Young Justice and The Legend of Korra "

Week 27 - Thundercats Commissions By Rich Bernatovech

This totally fits in with this week's theme here on Illustrious Bits. I was at the Wizard World Philly Con this weekend and was commssioned to do all 5 of the Thundercats in their new updated looks. I had a blast drawing them and when the person who commissioned them saw the finished versions, they commissioned me to do all 5 of the Thundercats in their original looks too. I'm doing those at home and mailing them out though, so they are not finished. Even later in the Con though, I was commissioned to do another Thundercat, lol. So, I did a total of 6 this weekend.
